Abstract
Solid electrolyte potentiometry has been used to measure the oxygen activity at the catalyst surface during the oxidation of carbon monoxide by oxygen and/or nitrogen monoxide on platinum at ambient pressure. The results of the combined kinetic and electrochemical measurements can be interpreted consistently within the accepted concept of elementary steps. The findings of the simultaneous oxidation clearly confirm and explain the high selectivity of the carbon monoxide‐oxygen reaction. Keywords
