Abstract
Summary: Five common trilobite associations occur in the British Wenlock. The associations are characterised by increased abundance of particular genera and their distribution is related to changes in lithofacies and position on the palaeoslope. Comparable associations are widespread in the Silurian of other parts of the world. Similar lithofacies of different ages often contain generically identical trilobite assemblages thus highlighting the dangers of basing correlations upon comparisons made above the specific level. Keywords
