Abstract
Circular marks on sediments along existing coasts are shown to be caused by wind and water currents. Similar marks on a slab of Solnhofen limestone (Upper Jurassic age) are combined with a fish carcass partially decayed prior to burial. Interpretations of the limestone slab are supported by experiments with living and dead fish on unconsolidated sediments.
