Abstract
The Earth sciences include not only geology, but the hybrid-sciences geophysics, geochemistry and geobiology, of which the most complex and least rigorous is geobiology. The future development of geobiology depends on techniques which analyse the complexity and increase the rigour. The most hopeful techniques are those which separate each signal in turn from what at first seems to be only noise.Keywords
