To the Editor: The syndrome of generalized lymphadenopathy in homosexual men, or the lymphadenopathy syndrome, has been epidemiologically1 and etiologically2 , 3 related to the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS); in 0 to 19 per cent of patients with the lymphadenopathy syndrome, the disorder has progressed to full-blown AIDS in follow-up periods ranging from 18 to 30 months.4 5 6 In a study in Atlanta involving 78 patients with the lymphadenopathy syndrome, 5 (6 per cent) had progression to AIDS 3 to 15 months after enrollment in the study and 5 to 25 months after the onset of lymphadenopathy (unpublished data).We have cultured lymphocytes . . .
