Relationship of Enamel Solubility to Caries Experience

Abstract
In order to determine whether there is a difference in the enamel solubility of teeth with a difference in caries experience, 140 permanent molars, carious and non-carious from lifetime inhabitants of 2 areas ranging in age from 13[long dash] plus 55 years were studied. The solubility of the enamel surface was expressed as micrograms of P leached out of the test area. The differences were not significant. Considerable variation was found in the enamel solubility of teeth within the same age group and between groups. There was a lack of correlation between age, enamel solubility and caries experience.
