An information search tactic is a move made to further a search. In this article 17 “idea tactics” are presented: tactics to help generate new ideas or solutions to problems in information searching. The focus of these tactics is psychological; they are intended to help improve the information specialist's thinking and creative processes in searching. The tactics are applicable to all kinds of situations, both bibliographic and reference searches, in both manual and on-line systems.
