Abstract
The reaction of aqueous solutions of cadmium iodide and hexamethylenetetramine yields crystals of an adduct 3CdI2 • 2CeH12N4 • 4H2O. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P 21/n, Z = 2, a = 811.5(2), b = 1049.2(4), c = 1849.5(6) pm, β = 97.73(2)°. The adduct is polymeric and may be regarded as built up from groups of two tetrahedrally and one octahedrally coordinated Cd(II) ions in which the tetrahedra and the octahedron are sharing common iodine atoms at the corners; neighbourirg Cd3 units are interlinked by hexamethylenetetramine molecules.
