Abstract
Thirty-six autopsy cases of "toxemias of pregnancy" and 6 needle biopsy cases were studied to reveal the following results. Proteinuria, high blood pressure and edema prevail in nearly all cases. The glomerular lesions can be classified into 2 types (A and B). Interesting figures of "splitting" of the basement membrane are observed in the electron microscopic pictures. Dilatation of tubules and mild interstitial edema are found in nearly one-half of the autopsy cases. Classical acute glomerulonephritis and renal changes in toxemias of pregnancy are considered to be closely related conditions. A vasomotoric disturbance plays an important role in the formation of the renal lesions.
