Geologie du secteur manganesifere du Minervois

Abstract
Manganese occurs in pockets in Famennian (Devonian) limestones of the Minervois mountains on the south slope of the Montagne Noire, France. Apparently neither structure nor lithology controlled the mineralization. The morphology of the pockets and the composition of the ore suggest that the manganese deposits probably represent lacustrine sedimentation accompanying post-Famennian karst processes, during a period of emergence immediately prior to transgression of the Visean (Carboniferous) sea.
