Abstract
Four expts. involving 114 pigs of 2 breeds and both sexes indicated that subcut. implantation of 12 or 24 mg. stilbestrol pellets per pig did not consistently stimulate gains. The non-treated controls required from 5.2 to 13.7% more feed per cwt. gain than those treated. Implanting the pellet in the ear is not to be recommended because of danger of pellet encapsulation, better results were obtained from the implants in the neck region on gilts and scrotal cavity on barrows. Use of stilbestrol at these levels is not to be recommended for gilts because of danger of prolapse of uterus. Treatment resulted in teat development in both sexes, a mild nymphomaniac response and extreme swelling of external genitalia of gilts, and in barrows a restored ability for erection and renewed sex desire. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
