Abstract
This paper presents a new design technique for the optimal regulation of non-linear plants. The system performance measure is far more general than the standard quadratic form, penalizing for error and derivative of error, and optimal control laws are synthesized which can be implemented in closed-loop form. When implementation constraints require the use of suboptimal designs, resultant system performance degradations can be calculated exactly. Keywords
