Abstract
To the Editor: The article by Drs. Zacharias and Wurtman1 makes reference to my paper on the menarche in four groups of African girls.2 Some of my later studies,3 in which an association between age at menarche, ethnic group and social class were specifically considered, are relevant. Groups of African and Indian schoolgirls, living in urban and rural areas of Natal, South Africa, were followed from before the menarche until the date of onset (Table 1).
