Chronic Salmonella Bacteriuria Complicating Lymphosarcoma

Abstract
In view of the rarity of chronic Salmonella bacteriuria complicating neoplastic diseases and the lack of understanding of its pathogenesis, a patient with lymphosarcoma associated with intermittent Salmonella typhimurium bacteriuria, traced to one kidney and lasting for more than a year, is described. Prolonged therapy with both ampicillin and chloramphenicol failed to eradicate the pathogen. It is postulated that tumor involvement of the left kidney may have provided the site for infection, resulting from bacteremia secondary to gastroenteritis.
