Abstract
Transmission experiments have been carried out with polarized, monochromatic neutrons and polarized nuclei using a single crystal sample of holmium metal. (61.0±2.8)% of the thermal capture is into states, which establishes the contribution of one or more bound levels to the thermal cross section. Additional measurements on a polycrystalline sample show that the scattering cross section has no appreciable spin dependence.
