Abstract
The taxonomic status of Trachurus declivis (Jenyns, 1842) and T. nouaezelandiae Richardson, 1843 present in New Zealand waters, is discussed. Criteria used to identify these species include the lateral line configuration, the extent of the accessory lateral line, and scute count. The species are re-defined allowing for interspecific variation. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
