Abstract
The incidence of aphakia in this series of retinal detachment was 14.82%. The incidence of retinal detachment in aphakia was 2.74%. The use of .alpha.-chymotrypsin did not influence this incidence. In these patients, there was not a sex predominance, although there was a predominance of the male sex in a referred group. The mean age of the patients affected by aphakic retinal detachment was 65.87 yr and 82.6% of the cases occurred above the age of 56 yr. There was no statistical significant difference between the right and the left eye involvement. Finally, 38.37% of the detachments appeared during the 1st year after the cataract extraction, 24.4% were myopic and 14.66% bilateral. Keywords
