Abstract

A modification of the alkali-flame detector (1) increases the response of nitrogen compounds from two to three orders of magnitude compared to the normal flame detector. Equipped with a rubidium sulfate bead and a movable single loop electrode, the detector can be set to discriminate against other alkali-flame active elements like halogens or phosphorus.
