Bacteroides funduliformis was isolated from the site of anastomosis, and responded both in vitro and in vivo to aureomycin. Before aureomycin therapy was instituted, the patient had varying degrees of jaundice for 4 yrs. and 13 known hepatobiliary operations within a 5-yr. period without abatement of symptoms. No resistance to aureomycin has occurred although it has been admd. continuously for 4-mos. The only serious toxic effect was swelling of several joints and a maculopapular rash, all of which responded well to benadryl.
