Abstract
Crystalline samples of a glass-forming chalcogenide, As0.50Te0.12 Ge0.08, have been irradiated by fast neutrons to the fluence of 3.4 × 1018 n/cm−2 (E > 1 MeV) at 83°K. X-ray diffraction examination indicates that such irradiation substantially destroys the crystalline structure. A recovery process was observed to occur at room temperature. However, 270 days after irradiation, the originally crystalline structure still remained severely damaged. The material appears to be more susceptible to radiation damage than other solids at low temperatures. Keywords
