Abstract
Several structures are considered as candidates for the predicted high-pressure (above 400 GPa) atomic phase of metallic hydrogen. Results for the cubic phases are found to agree well with previous calculations. Two particularly interesting structures are the primitive hexagonal (ph) and rhombohedral (9R), which are found to be particularly stable and may be good candidates for the structure of atomic metallic hydrogen. Keywords
