Abstract
AUDIOLOGY is becoming an icreasingly important diagnostic science and as such may provide important clues to what are now considered to be rather obscure problems. It is our intention to present some of the audiologic techniques now in use for testing for the presence of recruitment in hearing and to evaluate these tests in terms of their validity and availability. At this time, it might be well to review some of what has been written in this area of interest. The literature on recruitment presents a rather confused picture at the present time, but this paper will attempt to describe some of the methods now in use. Recruitment of loudness is a phenomenon involving a foreshortening of the usable range of hearing.
