Incidence ofEntomophthoraspp. in sympatric populations ofAcyrthosiphon kondoiandA. pisum

Abstract
Dryland lucerne at four sites in the Auckland region were sampled during autumn 1980 for diseased Acyrthosiphon kondoi and A. pisum. In A. pisum the average disease incidence was 54.2%, with Entomophthora aphidis the dominant pathogen. Disease was less common in A. kondoi (avemge 11.2%), with E. obscura the most common pathogen. E. phalloides was detected at one site only. All three pathogens infected both species of aphid, and laboratory experiments confirmed the potenti'al for cross-infection. Implications of these results for biological control of lucerne aphids are discussed.
