Abstract
Thirteen rabbits were exposed to 750 r of whole body X-radiation 24 hours after injection of autologous platelets labeled with sodium chromate51. Blood samples were taken for measurement of platelet radioactivity at 2, 23, 26, and 48 hours following platelet injection and daily thereafter as long as radioactivity persisted. Twelve rabbits similarly treated were "shamirradiated". No difference in survival of labeled platelets was noted between irradiated and control animals. From these studies it is concluded that X-radiation in the dose employed has no direct effect on circulating platelets. Keywords
