Abstract
The recently suggested concept of σ‐sections of the orientation space for comprehensible representation of distributions in texture analysis is considered in detail. The properties of possible variants of variables describing orientations and of projections are characterized qualitatively as well as by numerical estimations. Two variants are recommended for the use in practice in dependence on the questions of interest for the interpretation of orientation distributions. Keywords
