Abstract
The diffuseness or spread, ill time, of whistlers observed at four Australian stations is discussed. It is found to be approximately twice as large for long as for short whistlers, to be independent of season and time of day, and to be lillearly related to geomagnetic latitude and whistler dispersion. The diffuseness may be accounted for by assuming that the energy travels over a range of paths in the exosphere, and estimates of this range are made (i) assuming a smooth variation of dispersion with latitude and (ii) assuming a duct-type of guiding.
