Abstract
SUMMARY: Two serious complications, perforation or laceration of a distended viscus in 2 horses and abdominal wall cellulitis in 2 horses, resulted from needle abdominocentesis during a 2-year period in which 850 peritoneal fluid analyses were performed. The complication proved fatal in 3 horses; in the other, extensive and prolonged therapy was required.
