Abstract
Equations of dissipative magnetohydrodynamics are solved numerically for an axisymmetric toroidal pinch. A circular cross-section screw pinch is treated, although the method is general and extendable to other geometries. Calculated results are compared with experimental results of the SP-1 machine at Jutphaas. Very good agreement is attained, indicating that on short time scales, magnetohydrodynamics gives a good representation of the physical phenomena. Keywords
