Abstract
Average Stomoxys calcitrans (L.) populations of ca. 50/calf reduced weight gains by 0.9 kg/day (100 day trial) and feed efficiency by 12.9% for calves fed a growing ration. An average population of 100 flies/calf reduced weight gains by 0.22 kg/day (100 day trial) and feed efficiency by 10.9% for those fed a finishing ration. Blood chemistry analysis gave no indication of calf stress induced by stable flies nor did pathological examinations reveal any detrimental conditions that might be caused by stable fly feeding. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
