Abstract
A series of 50 adult patients presenting for ophthalmic surgery was anaesthetized by a simple technique in which suxamethonium was used to facilitate endotracheal intubation. In the first 21 patients intraocular pressure was measured on the return of spontaneous respiration; a rise in pressure could not be demonstrated. When intraocular pressure was measured within 1 minute of the injection of suxamethonium, a rise in pressure was found in 20 of 29 patients. This rise was, however, transient and in all cases, including 10 patients with known glaucoma, the inferred intraocular pressure fell to or below the pre-operative level before the beginning of surgery. Keywords
