Abstract
TYPHOID fever is a disease unique to man. No other animal species acquires an illness simulating typhoid fever after oral ingestion of the organism. This lack of a suitable experimental animal has hindered the acquisition of knowledge on pathogenesis and control. This presentation will summarize the experience gained in the study of healthy volunteers infected with typhoid bacilli. The purpose of these ongoing investigations has been to develop better methods of prevention and control of disease. The primary objective has been the quantitative evaluation of experimental and conventional vaccines. Such studies have permitted a careful analysis of pathogenesis.Typhoid vaccine . . .Keywords
