Supporting Environmental Improvements in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the UK

Abstract
This paper discusses the range and effectiveness of different environmental businesssupport services within the uk that are seeking to facilitate the environmental improvement of SMEs. The paper has four specific objectives. First, it aims to outline some of the key issues surrounding the greening of SMEs. It then outlines the agents of change and the role of facilitators within the environmental improvement process. Third, the paper comments on the effectiveness of environmental business-support services and provides a case study of one support service, the Centre for Environment and Safety Management for Business. Finally, the paper poses a series of recommendations for improving the targeting and utilisation of environmental businesssupport services by SMEs.
