Abstract
A study is made of steady and non-steady flow through a carburettor. A model is presented in which the carburettor is represented by an adiabatic pressure loss at a discontinuity in the intake system of an engine. It is shown that this simple model gives excellent predictions of the pressure-time development in the intake system except at small throttle openings where there is some error in the peak amplitude. Mass flow and trapped mass predictions are excellent. Keywords
