Toxoplasmosis in the Adult

Abstract
Laboratory DiagnosisRoutine White-cell count. This ranges from leukopenia, or leukemoid reaction, to a picture of acute lymphatic leukemia. In mild cases it may be normal. Cells have been found on peripheral blood smears that could not be differentiated from the atypical lymphocytes seen in infectious mononucleosis and hepatitis. Red-cell count. Anemia may be present. Urine. The only abnormal finding may be protein-uria. Hyaline casts and red and white blood cells have been seen in the sediment in some cases. Cerebrospinal fluid. There may be increased protein and slightly lowered sugar, with pleocytosis. Liver-function studies. These may give abnormal results. . . .
