Abstract
The use of a chemically defined medium supplemented with serum has proved most suitable for the growth of the isolated embryonic otocyst in vitro. Complete differentiation of the cochlear duct and of the vestibular apparatus ensued and is described. The system is reliable for organ cultures of both the avian and mammalian otocyst and for the study of various lesions affecting the inner ear and middle ear. Keywords
