Abstract
Epidemiologic AspectsDistribution of CMVSurveys of unselected newborn infants in four cities in the United States and England indicate that some 1 per cent enter the world with an active infection as indicated by presence of viruria.36, 128 129 130 Risk of acquired infection begins during birth. Thereafter, as imperfectly assayed by serologic technics, the cumulative risk during life is reflected in peak CF reactivity rates of the order of 80 per cent in adults in such disparate regions as Stockholm and Easter Island.131 , 132 The general picture that emerges is one of worldwide endemicity, but with marked variation in levels in differing . . .Keywords
