Abstract
A case of water intoxication in a patient undergoing uterine stimulation with high doses of Syntocinon is presented. The relative roles of the electrolyte-free fluid and of the oxytocin given in the development of this syndrome are discussed. It is apparent that this complication resulted from a state of antidiuresis due to the high doses of the hormone. The treatment of this dangerous situation is outlined briefly. It is apparent that this potentially fatal complication has not received due attention. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
