The activity in vitro and in vivo of a new imidazole antifungal, ketoconazole

Abstract
Ketoconazole, a new water-soluble synthetic imidazole derivative which is absorbed into the bloodstream after oral administration, was inhibitory in vitro to a range of pathogenic yeasts and fungi in concentrations from 0.1 to 64 mg/L The drug was effective in vivo in the treatment of experimental dermatophytosis in guinea pigs and experimental systemic candidosis in rabbits. It is considered to be of potential value in the treatment of human mycoses.
