Drift Velocity of Electrons in Argon

Abstract
Drift velocity of electrons in pure argon and in argon‐nitrogen mixtures has been measured with a parallel plate ionization chamber. Argon was purified by a calcium‐magnesium filled convection current purifier. Results for pure argon agree with those of Nielsen. Sensitivity of drift velocity against argon purity was investigated by adding to argon small amounts of nitrogen. The purifier's efficiency in regards to the most common impurities contained in tank argon was tested by absorbtion of given fractions of these impurities previously added to pure argon.
