Abstract
The criteria for the diagnosis of follicular carcinoma of the thyroid and in particular of the “minimally invasive” variant are discussed. The introduction of a new terminology reflecting the indolent behavior of most of the thyroid neoplasms morphologically resembling follicular adenomas, and currently diagnosed as carcinomas on the sole basis of capsular invasion, is recommended. Keywords
