Abstract
The steroidal alkaloid tomatidine and chlorophylls break down during ripening of tomato fruits; at the same time the synthesis of carotenoids, the yellow, orange and red pigments of ripe fruits, is intensified. Analytical contrôle of these constituents during fruit maturation suggest that breakdown products of tomatidine may be involved in carotenoid biosynthesis. Keywords
