A Simple Quantitative Urine Culture Method Using an Internally Coated Plastic Pipette

Abstract
Kunin, Calvin M., and Bergeron, John A.: A simple quantitative urine culture method using an internally coated plastic pipette. Am. J. Clin. Pathol. 58: 371–375, 1972. A novel method of quantitative urine culture is described. The procedure uses disposable pipettes coated internally with solid medium. Comparative bacterial counts of clinical specimens using the pour plate and pipette methods revealed a high degree of agreement. Equivalent results were obtained in 92.4% of 500 cultures. The low cost and simplicity of the pipette method should permit greater ease in performing quantitative urine cultures in hospital practice and screening programs.
