Abstract
Data was drawn from several studies undertaken by the author to examine the idea that life events associated with myocardial infarction are to some degree influenced by personal factors characteristic of the individual. It was found that persons with the type A behaviour pattern were more likely to encounter life events than others, and patients with myocardial infarction were more likely than others to interpret encountered life events in an emotionally adverse way. These data were discussed in the light of research strategies linking life events with cardiovascular disease.
