Abstract
Corpuscles of Stannius were surgically removed from male killifish, Fundulus heteroclitus, acclimated to one third Long Island Sound sea water. Asthenia and kidney stone formation were observed. An increase in serum total and dialytic calcium, chloride and potassium and a decrease in serum sodium and inorganic phosphate were evident. No change in serum magnesium was observed. Injections of homogenates of codfish corpuscles of Stannius into intact male killifish adapted to fresh or sea water produced a significant decrease in serum total calcium in sea water fish only.
