Abstract
The K X-ray emission lines of chromium in several oxidation states have been studied and changes in peak position and profile observed. The changes have been related to oxidation state and ligand environment. These observations were employed in the determination of the CrVI to total Cr ratio by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, the measurement of the Cr Kβ′ to Cr Kβ1,3 intensity ratio being chosen as the most appropriate parameter. The method was applied to the determination of the CrVI content of welding fume samples. Keywords
