Abstract
The thickness of grana within chloroplasts of mature apple leaves increased with depth in the palisade layer. Growth of trees under shade resulted in thicker grana. Transfer of trees from light to shade, and vice versa, suggested that grana thickness changed in response to decreased but not increased light intensity. Keywords
