Bifurcation Characteristic Reynolds Number

Abstract
The experimental studies of the flow characteristics in the bifurcation, where a single cylindrical branch leaves the parent trunk, are presented. The range of the entrance Reynolds number is 2,000  Re  11,000. It was found that, for most bifurcations, around entrance Reynolds number of 7000, an unusual drop in the ratio of the mass flow rate in the side branch to the flow rate in the main branch, y, takes place. This drop is followed by a peculiar local recovery in the y ratio, which may be linked to a change in pressure and consequently may be a contributing factor in the generation of noises within the variable flow piping hydraulic systems.
