Abstract
Synopsis: The description of thecal dimorphism in the graptolite Thamnograptus Hall by Finney (1980) has led to the rehabilitation of the genus which Bulman at one time regarded as possibly non-graptolitic. The genus was widely recorded from the south of Scotland at the end of the last century but there is no modern account. The Scottish specimens were referred to two different species by Lapworth (1876) but no formal description was ever provided and a re-examination of old collections does not show any consistent differences which could be taken as specific. The stratigraphical range of the genus appears to be quite short, mainly Nemagraptus gracilis Zone, so it may be of use in correlation when found. Keywords
