Abstract
The radio transmitters considered here are those which did not use thermionic valves as oscillating elements. Even with this limitation, the subject is a wide one, covering three decades of development. No attempt has been made, therefore, to list every transmitter of the period, but, instead, a few particularly significant equipments in the light of the political and commerical policies which affected their technical designs are described.
