Abstract
Summary: A method for testing the potency of anti-platelet serum, by determining its ability to lyse platelets in the presence of complement in vitro, is described. Details concerning the dynamics of platelet lysis, the effects of interfering substances, and the conditions required for performing the test correctly are given. The error of the method is about 8%. Several determinations per hour can be made, in contrast with methods in the literature which are difficult to read and are time consuming. A definition of a platelet lytic unit is presented, based on the time required for a certain amount of lysis as measured by turbidimetry in a photoelectric apparatus. Keywords
